First Grade with Miss Petzold
We are off to a great start this year, and already the kids have grown and learned so much. Check out our classroom news often to see what we have been up to!
Listening Center
At the listening center, the kids listen to a variety of things. Sometimes they follow along with a book, and others times they get to listen to fun learning songs. My favorite part of listening center is when they are all laughing at something or singing out loud - completely oblivious to the fact that all the rest of us can hear them. :)
Weekly Center Bins
Each week your child will need to complete all 12 centers by Friday. When they are finished with a task, they show me and I then mark it off on their progress sheets. They are doing an awesome job with these. Most of all, I am so proud of all of them for working it out with each other who gets what bin at which time. We are working hard on thinking about someone else before we think about ourselves!

Special Visit from
Grandma Petzold
My grandma came to visit and played addition bump with the kids. I sure hope I can still get on the floor like that when I'm 80 years old like she can!
Word Work
Building words with letter beads and pipe cleaners is one of our favorite activities!

Writing our spelling words and sight words is so much more fun when we write on magic bags!
Math
Making pictures with pattern blocks is tons of fun! We use manipulatives everyday to show adding and subtracting.

Miss Donna - our favorite teacher's aide!
Miss Donna comes to our classroom every single day and works with small groups. She is with us for an hour in the morning, and half an hour in the afternoon. Miss Donna helps us with our reading in the morning and gets to play math games with us in the afternoon. She helps keep Miss Petzold organized, and gets to share in all of the daily joy and success as we become better readers, writers, and mathematicians!
Miss Fran and Bingo!
Miss Fran loves to volunteer in our classroom on Tuesday afternoons, and the kids have so much fun playing and learning with her. They often play rhyming bingo or sight word bingo, and Miss Fran teaches them the many different ways to make a "bingo." Frog Pond Fractions is also one of our new favorite math games that they play with Miss Fran.

Chickens with Miss Mary
Miss Mary brings chickens into our classroom! We really like getting to hold the baby chickens (well.....most of us) and we learn so much. Miss Mary patiently answers all of our questions, and teaches us new words!
