First Grade Curriculum
The students will be taking part in an in depth music program. This program incorporates all of the Florida Sunshine State Standards for first grade. The following describes what the students will be learning for each nine weeks of school.
First Nine Weeks:
Emphasis: Experience Listening/Singing - so, la, mi, re, do songs Rhythm – steady & no steady beat Melody – low to high tones, pattern Timbre – vocal, environment Expression – dynamics (forte & piano) Form – call & response Texture/Harmony – one sound/more than one sound Applications to Life – appropriate behaviors and responses Second Nine Weeks: Emphasis: Performance Rhythm – quarter & eighth notes Melody – pattern, so, mi, la, do Timbre – percussion Expression – tempo (fast, slow, changing) Form – same & different sections Texture/Harmony – rhythmic ostinato accompaniments |
Third Nine Weeks:
Emphasis: Improvisation Rhythm – quarter rests, 2/4 meter Melody – so, mi, la, re, do Timbre – pitched percussion Expression – crescendo, decrescendo Form – AB & ABA phrases Texture/Harmony – Bordun accompaniments Fourth Nine Weeks: Emphasis: Composition Rhythm – meter, strong & weak beats Melody – pentatonic, movement by steps & skips Timbre – instruments of the orchestra Expression – articulation Form – introduction & coda Texture/Harmony – layered ostinato accompaniments |
